Goal: Extend CARE’s project to provide minorities in rural areas with technology-based education.
Project: As a part of CARE Cambodia’s Know & Grow Project to serve ethnic minority adolescent girls and boys in the rural province of Ratanak Kire, a team of 10 Box volunteers returned to three schools to train CARE Cambodia staff, ICT Core Trainers, teachers, and students. To address poor internet connectivity in this rural area, the team built upon last year’s project and worked with teachers/students in up-leveling their use of RACHEL servers (offline resources). Additionally, to inspire students to pursue STEM education/go into STEM fields, the team introduced fun coding-based maker kits such as Scratch (offline editor), Lego WeDo, Makey Makey, and Sphero Minis.
CARE Cambodia’s deputy country director immediately took notice of how the Box volunteers’ presence, alone, would inspire over 1000 young girls toward new career trajectories.
CARE Cambodia will be transferring the management and responsibilities of all technologies at each school into the local government’s hands in June 2020. Team4Tech was thrilled to end this four-year partnership with CARE Cambodia on such a high note.
