Skilled Volunteers Supporting Economic Opportunity in Paraguay

Fundación Paraguaya is a non-governmental organization (NGO) committed to poverty alleviation worldwide. Through innovative approaches and comprehensive support, including microfinance services, entrepreneurship training, and education programs, Fundación Paraguaya helps individuals and communities to break the cycle of poverty. Their Poverty Stoplight program enables families to assess their poverty levels across various economic and social dimensions and create personalized improvement plans to build better lives for themselves and their communities.

The Salesforce volunteer team visited a community of women in Fundación Paraguaya’s microfinance program to learn more about their experience with the Poverty Stoplight and help inform the design of a family app.

Team4Tech facilitated collaboration between Fundación Paraguaya and six Salesforce volunteers to optimize Poverty Stoplight’s data management processes and to design an app that can reach more families directly, scaling the impact of the program. In addition, the 5-day project leveraged other specialized expertise from skilled volunteers from Salesforce, including a review of  Fundacion Paraguaya’s data privacy legal terms and training sessions on project management, impact reporting, and user experience research.

Co-Designing an App to Benefit Families and Improving Data Use for Impact

One subteam of skilled volunteers collaborated with Poverty Stoplight staff to deliver:

  • an initial app concept
  • an app development roadmap
  • user experience resources and tools

Following the assessments and personalized improvement plans the Poverty Stoplight program implements with their community, the Poverty Stoplight Family App aims to reach more families with additional support and resources.

The deliverables co-designed by skilled volunteers and NGO staff on this project will help Fundación Paraguaya build a well-defined app with essential features and continuously improve its functionality through user feedback. Implementing user feedback processes will ensure the Poverty Stoplight Family App app is tailored to meet families’ needs.

Salesforce volunteers ran a feedback session to test the initial app prototype with potential users.

A second subteam of skilled volunteers facilitated a data audit and data management trainings. These exercises equipped the Fundación Paraguaya team with insights and best practices for improved data analysis. From more effective dashboard design to tools for impact storytelling, Fundación Paraguaya can apply learnings from this project to make better use of the Poverty Stoplight program’s data. They can share these learnings with partner organizations implementing Poverty Stoplight programs across the world.

Team4Tech skilled volunteering opportunities give employees a chance to use their expertise for good—this team of volunteers collaborated with a nonprofit in Paraguay to facilitate a data audit and data management trainings.
The Fundación Paraguaya staff engaged in a volunteer-led exercise to identify the data needed for each organizational stakeholder and plan for building audience-specific data dashboards.

At the end of the project, the Fundación Paraguaya and Salesforce teams co-created actionable work plans to continue incorporating guidance into future Family App development, data management, and data analysis.

The Team4Tech experience has significantly enhanced our ability to leverage technology for greater impact. With the skills and tools provided, we can now more effectively reach underserved communities and scale our operations.
