2020 IMPACT REPORT

Empowering Learners with Skills for Economic Opportunity

Since 2013, Team4Tech’s mission has been to improve the quality of education for under-resourced learners through technology and training. To date, we’ve reached more than 110,000 learners in 20 countries. This has been made possible by $15M in technology grants and pro bono consulting to build capacity for more than 50 nonprofit partners.

Meeting the moment with resilience, empathy, and innovation
In 2020, school closures due to the global pandemic affected 1.5B students. Read about how Team4Tech’s support enabled our nonprofit partners to meet these challenges, empower learners with skills for economic opportunity, and scale their impact.

Enabling students to keep learning

Rwanda

Team4Tech provided virtual workshops and mentoring for girls from the Gashora Girls Academy of Science and Technology so they could continue work on their technology-based capstone projects despite the pandemic.

South Africa

Since 2014, Team4Tech has supported LEAP Science and Maths Schools in townships of South Africa with technology and teacher training. This foundation, along with remote learning workshops for teachers as well as a grant for math software, enabled students to keep learning despite school closures during the pandemic.

Empowering women & girls with STEM

Uganda

After helping Women in Tech Uganda launch the first community-based makerspace in Kampala in 2019, Team4Tech continued to support WITU in building training capacity to empower more than 1000 women and girls with tech and entrepreneurship skills to help them launch new businesses.

Vietnam

Team4Tech supported Kidspire Vietnam in expanding Technovation – a global, problem-solving, and app-development competition for girls – across their entire curriculum. 11 teams of girls successfully submitted and presented their apps for the global challenge in 2020.

Scaling nonprofit impact with technology

India

Dost Education provides low-income, low-literacy parents in India with early childhood education resources via audio cast. With Team4Tech’s support, Dost pivoted from in-person outreach and onboarding to fully digital, enabling them to scale to families across the country.

Paraguay

Fundacion Paraguaya’s Poverty Stoplight app collects data from constituents living in poverty in 20+ countries to help 250+ community-based organizations and governments identify needs and build poverty alleviation strategies. Team4Tech partnered with Fundacion Paraguaya to build out messaging functionality that has enabled them to scale to 145,000 constituents.

Building teacher capacity

Kenya

With Team4Tech’s support, Dignitas, a teacher training nonprofit in Kenya, has digitized its training materials, reaching 1000+ teachers in 186 schools with animated learning videos to benefit more than 50,000 students.

Tanzania

TeachUNITED partners with schools in rural areas to provide training and resources for teachers with the goal of improving student learning outcomes. Team4Tech helped TeachUNITED pivot from in-person teacher workshops to a digital model to support 170 teachers and nearly 6000 students in Tanzania.

Catalyzing systemic change

Ghana

Team4Tech helped Worldreader develop a toolkit based on their successful primary school e-reader program to allow school districts across the country to replicate the program at scale. The toolkit is enabling the government to scale the program across Ghana.

Cambodia

With support from Team4Tech, the Cambodian Children’s Fund has developed a toolkit with local language videos and lesson plans to integrate STEM into the Cambodian education curriculum. The toolkit is now being shared by the government with public schools.

A message from Team4Tech’s co-founders

2020 reaffirmed to all of us the importance of Team4Tech’s mission of advancing the quality of education for under resourced learners around the world through technology and training. More than 90%, or 1.5B students, were impacted by school closures due to COVID-19, making technology for learning and teaching essential worldwide. Team4Tech saw a 500% increase in education nonprofits needing our support.

In response, we quickly engaged our community of volunteers to help nonprofits by digitizing curriculum so students could keep learning virtually, providing professional development for teachers to use remote learning tools, and developing online outreach strategies to reach additional families with educational programming.

Our long-term partnerships to build nonprofit capacity through annual technology and training projects enabled our partners to leverage this foundation during the pandemic and several are now leaders in their country’s response to these education challenges.

We are grateful for our donors who fund our technology grants and our corporate volunteers who use their skills to provide technology training and implementation support for our nonprofits as this impact would not have been possible without your support.
