Team4Tech and GBCE Lead Webinar Discussing How the Corporate Sector Can Support Education for Employability

Team4Tech and the Global Business Coalition for Education (GBCE) co-hosted a live discussion with corporate social impact leaders from the technology sector to explore how companies can advance education for employability through the use of their people, products, and philanthropy.

Voices in this panel discussion included:

  • Julie Clugage, Co-Founder and Executive Director, Team4Tech
  • Justin van Fleet, CEO, Global Business Coalition for Education
  • Maia Wagner, Director of Giving and Impact and the Digital Inclusion Portfolio Lead, Dell Technologies
  • Nicole Johnson, Global Director of Social Impact & Inclusion, Cadence Design Systems

Nicole Johnson, from Cadence Design Systems, spoke about how her company leverages people and philanthropy to live into their values.

She described how Cadence positively impacts education through philanthropic giving and creating skills-based volunteering opportunities. Through partnerships, they tap into the knowledge base of their highly skilled employees to make a difference. Nicole discussed Cadence’s longstanding partnership with Team4Tech.

What I think is really unique about [[Team4Tech’s]] program is the fact that it is actually a leadership development program for your employees through immersive service. So there’s a huge employee benefit, and a learning and development benefit, for the company and the employees that go through that program.”

Maia Wagner said that in her work at Dell Technologies, her company utilizes products and philanthropy to champion education and economic success for learners.

Maia emphasized the importance of training when supplying products to nonprofits and how that scaffolding is more valuable than the product alone. Dell has formed many partnerships to support democratizing technology and create access for all. Maia highlighted Dell’s partnership with GBCE to form a youth skills and employment accelerator program helping US-based nonprofit organizations to create workforce opportunities for their beneficiaries.

The common thread of the hour-long webinar was the focus on developing long-term, trusted partnerships to build a localized bridge from education to employability..
