Developing a Digital Literacy Program and Solutions in Cambodia

Goal: Install RACHEL servers to ensure students access to content with CARE.

Project: As a part of CARE Cambodia’s Know & Grow Project to serve ethnic minority adolescent girls and boys in the rural province of Ratanak Kire, a team of Box volunteers empowered the CARE Cambodia staff, ICT Core Trainers, teachers, and students from five schools to use technology in innovative ways. The team trained teachers and students on a video creation application for sharing lessons and research, helping them to develop communication, collaboration, and critical thinking skills. To mitigate poor internet connectivity in this rural area, the team installed RACHEL servers to allow teachers and students offline access to a Khmer version of Wikipedia, interactive maps, and digital books. The RACHEL servers further allow teachers to create content which students can access even during the rainy season when teachers may not be able to get to school.
