Technology Training for Teachers in Costa Rica with Middlebury College

 In 2018, Project Summary

TeachUNITED is a nonprofit organization that works side-by-side with educators in rural communities in Costa Rica to transform teaching and learning. They partner with rural schools for an intensive two-year program that includes on-site teacher coaching, a robust training program, and mobile off-the-grid technology. TeachUNITED delivers a variety of tools and support to help their partner schools join the ranks of the most successful schools in the world. Once the two-year program is complete, schools become part of the global TeachUNITED network, where teacher graduates mentor the next cohort of educators to create long-term, sustainable change.

Team4Tech partnered with Middlebury College to create a first-of-its-kind immersive service learning program for students interested in technology and education. As part of this program, Team4Tech volunteers from Middlebury assisted in projects such as: creating a short film showcasing TeachUNITED’s work in Costa Rica for marketing, motivational, and educational purposes; assisting in the installation, upgrading, and documentation of educational hardware and software at rural schools in Costa Rica; planning, advertising, and teaching community workshops on technical tools for small businesses; and conducting research to measure the TeachUNITED program’s impact.
